Apple Event: iPhone 5S and 5C launched

Apple aims to reinvigorate the iPhone brand. Months of leaked photos and online speculation fell aside as Apple officially revealed its two new models of iPhone 5 at the company’s headquarters in Cupertino, California. Both iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C will come preinstalled with iOS 7, a significant redesign that was first shown at Apple’s WWDC event in June.

iPhone 5S

iPhone 5S will be the world’s first 64-bit smartphone. Apple is promising up to double CPU and graphics performance from its new A7 chip when compared to the A6 introduced in last year’s iPhone 5. The improved handset is also set to pioneer consumer-grade fingerprint scanners in the smartphone industry with its Touch ID, a biometric sensor that’s part of each device’s home button. Three finishes will be available for iPhone 5S: gold, silver and space grey.

iPhone 5C

Prevailing wisdom said that iPhone 5C would be Apple’s first foray into the budget smartphone market. As it turns out, the 5C’s pricing is comparable to iPhone 4S. It won’t surprise anyone who has followed the steady flow of leaked photos prior to launch to see that iPhone 5C really has taken a leaf out of the latest iPod Touch’s rainbow of designs. The new, plastic-bodied smartphone will come in five colours: white, pink, yellow, blue and green. Take a whirl through our gallery below for launch images of iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C:

Pre-orders for iPhone 5C open on September 13. You won’t be able to get your hands on an iPhone 5S until both smartphones arrive in stores on September 20.
